My newest project is collecting scrap pieces of metal in order to raise money to fund my zine. So far, I’ve just been collecting aluminum cans, but I have also put out a request to Wilmington’s Freecycle for broken/unwanted appliances and electronics so I can dissect them for copper. I called around a few scrap metal places in town and the rate right now for aluminum is about 40cents per pound. There’s one place up near Raleigh though that will give me about 60cents per pound. The rate for copper is about $2/pound but copper will be much more work. Aluminum cans are everywhere. I go into the kitchen at work and take them out of the garbage. I can get about 10+ cans a day just from work if I really tried. I am going to start scavenging the curbs around my neighborhood to see what I can find.
Now the next question, where am I going to store all this shit?
